Omega Planet Ocean watches are one of the newest members of the legendary Omega Seamaster series. These automatic mens watches are available in 42mm and 45mm, with automatic or automatic chronograph movements. These exquisite timepieces are available in a variety of designs with varying degrees of orange prominent. Featuring Omega's Co-axial mechanism, these COSC chronometer certified mens automatic watches are a testament to quality, elegance, and precision worthy of boasting George Clooney, Michael Phelps, and James Bond as their ambassadors. Even whilst relaxing on the beach, only the best is good enough for James Bond, an ethos perfectly reflected in his choice of diving partner. The Seamaster Planet Ocean 'Casino Royale' is a potent combination of technical complexity and aesthetic elegance. The design of the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean recalls that of the first-ever Omega Seamaster 300 meter models, originally launched in 1957. At the same time, it also marks the first full-scale use of Omega's proprietary Co-Axial Escapement technology in the Omega Seamaster divers' watch collection. Available in one size (42mm in diameter), the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean models are readily identified by their bezels, one third of which is visible in its original brushed surface, the other two thirds in orange - a color chosen because it is one of the most visible under water. Other characteristic indicators that this is a classic divers' watch are the watertight screw-in crown and the helium escape valve, located at 10 o'clock and embossed with "He", the chemical symbol for helium. The excellent water resistance down to 2000 feet is further guaranteed by a screw-in case back. Co-Axial Escapement, a proprietary Omega technology, considerably reduces friction in the heart of the watch mechanism and thus offers much better long-term reliability and accuracy. The movement remains tightly sealed behind the stainless-steel case back embossed with the name of the watch, the Omega symbol and a large embossed seahorse - the medallion of the Seamaster line. |

One of the most spoken about watches of 2005, the Omega Planet Ocean, with its rugged and functional styling, adds to its range with a brand new model, the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Chrono. Originally conceived as an evolution of the 1957 Seamaster 300 model, this second-generation Co-Axial Planet Ocean surpasses all the requisites of a professional diver's watch and for 2006 is further enhanced by a superlative column-wheel chronograph mechanism. Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Chrono is available in two main colour versions, either with orange highlights on the bezel, numbers, sub-dials and push-buttons or a more sober black bezel and push-buttons with white dial details. A third option combines orange and white dial details with a black bezel and push-buttons. All versions of the Planet Ocean chronograph are housed in an imposing and robust 45.5mm diameter polished and brushed stainless steel case. Beyond the requisites of a professional diver's watch (300 metres/1000 feet) this model is water resistant to 600 metres/2000 feet. Other features that distinguish this as a professional diver's instrument are the screw-in crown and screw-down case back, the helium escape valve, the fluted uni-directional rotating bezel featuring a luminous dot and the highly visible hands on the dial.Positioned at 10 o'clock and embossed with the chemical symbol for helium "He", the helium escape valve allows any atoms of this gas to escape during decompression. This is a vital function when using a diving bell, as minuscule helium atoms are able to penetrate the case and could damage the watch when expansion occurs during decompression. The chronograph push-buttons, made of steel and decorated with a coloured aluminium ring, are functional to 600 metres/2000 feet while the domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal has received an anti-reflective treatment on both sides for optimum clarity. |

Other watch complications include date indicators, alarms, moon phase displays, multiple time zone features, and other time-related measurements shown with additional hands, windows, or sub-dials on the watch. |

Now, only a watch whose movement has been certified by COSC can be called a chronometer. For a typical men's-sized mechanical watch movement, it must have stayed within -4 to +6 seconds of variation per day during the COSC measurement at various temperatures and positions. COSC also certifies quartz movements (their standard is +/-0.2 second per day for these). But since quartz movements are inherently very accurate and suffer little to no variation based on position or normal temperature ranges, certification is much less significant to buyers of quartz movement watches. Almost no watchmakers go to the expense to have COSC certify their quartz movements. |

Manual date change from stem without altering the time setting. The first need for very accurate timepieces came from ships needing precision timekeeping to allow precise celestial navigation. The term OMEGA chronometer came in to use to describe timepieces accurate enough for ship navigation. In 1973, the Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometeres (COSC) came in to existence as the official testing and certification control board. A chronometer certificate is not a guarantee of future accuracy. Watch movements that have been certified can get out of adjustment and perform poorly. Movements that were not certified may still exceed the COSC standards--the manufacturer may simply have simply chosen to bypass the expense of the certification process. |
