The OMEGA Co-Axial escapement is a revolution in master watchmaking. At the dawn of the third millennium, OMEGA presents an innovation that redefines the entire theory of mechanical watchmaking. The escapement is the heart of every mechanical watch and the basic theory behind it has remained unchanged for over 200 years. Today, OMEGA breaks the mould with a totally new design, the Co-Axial escapement, developed in conjuction with master watchmaker George Daniels. The new design is based on double Co-Axial escape wheel, a lever with three pallet stones and impulse stone on the balance roller, together with a free sprung-balance. The Co-Axial system reduces sliding friction compared with the lever escapement and thus ensures greater accuracy over time.

Semi-instantaneous: the date moves slowly from around 11.30pm, at midnight the date is still visible. The function concludes with a jump of the disc. Total duration is 45 to 60 min. Dragging: slow function, the date changes slowly, starting at around 11pm, at midnight the date is still visible and the function continues without the disc jumping. Total duration is 120 min. |

If you are looking for a watch you can rely on for accuracy, we would recommend a quartz watch. You never have to worry about winding it or wearing it in order for it to work. In Quartz watches, a specially designed battery activates a Quartz crystal inside the movement that vibrates approximately 33 times per second. These vibrations translate into impulses by a computer chip that drives an electronic motor, which moves the watch's hands. |

Automatic refers to a watch movement that consists of a self-winding mechanism which allows the watch to run on its own without batteries. The advantage to this is that batteries are not required for the watch to run. The disadvantage to it is that if you set the watch down for more than couple of days it will stop running and you will have to set the time and date again also the watch should be serviced every few years to make sure it runs smoothly. |
